Love Kinship Review: Safe for the Sea & Your Skin

I am so excited to share my Love Kinship review with you all. New on the skincare scene, this brand has already made a big splash. With an emphasis on clean products that are not only good for your skin but also for the sea (in particular, the reefs that are under threat), Love Kinship puts its money where its mouth is.

What is Love Kinship all about?

Created by scientists and industry experts, they claim they make “clean, cruelty-free products that actually work – for all people.” They like to call themselves the skin’s “support system” – I love that! Rather than harp on about how they’ll fix all your problems, their products are marketed in a way that makes you feel normal and beautiful in your skin.

Love Kinship emphasizes quality clean ingredients, inner health, and the power of connection. Their products are cruelty free, sustainable (and recyclable!), and most notably, their SPF is reef-safe. This brand goes beyond simply saying they care about the earth, to ensuring everything they put out doesn’t harm Mother Nature.

Their line currently consists of 6 products: the Papaya Enzyme Cleanser, the Lemon Honey AHA pads, the Supermello moisturizer, the Self Reflect SPF 32, their Mint Mud Detox mask, and their Pimple Potion salicyclic acid spot treatment. I have been lucky to have been gifted all of their products (with no expectation of review – I am sharing this to educate & spread my love for this brand!). However, I have also since repurchased some products and am excited to see what they come up with next.

Now that you’ve been introduced to the line, let’s get into the good stuff: product reviews! Read on for detailed descriptions of each product & my honest thoughts 🙂

Naked Papaya Gentle Enzyme Face Cleanser

love kinship naked papaya enzyme cleanser

Product Information

This cleanser is supercharged with a number of amazing ingredients: papaya enzymes to help purify and smooth the skin, jojoba oil to moisturize & soften, sunflower oil to calm & replenish, and their propietary Kinbiome to support clear skin & a strong barrier. This cleanser is designed to smell like a tropical fruit smoothie. It’s super creamy and soft on the skin. The papaya enzyme cleanser can be used morning and evening. To use, apply 2-3 pumps of face wash on damp skin to melt away dirt, oil and makeup. This cleanser costs $22 for 5oz.

My thoughts

This is a fantastic cleanser! I love enzyme products because they tend to be gentler than other chemical exfoliants – and this face wash is no exception. The papaya enzyme cleanser is both gentle and refreshing. Usually, I reach for this as a morning or post-workout cleanser. I can’t speak to it’s ability to remove heavy-duty makeup and grime, but it leaves my skin feeling clear and cleansed. Would I purchase with my own money? Yes.

Insta Swipe Lemon Honey AHA Pads

love kinship insta swipe lemon honey aha pads

Product Information

These pads are a one-stop shop for exfoliating, brightening, decongesting, and fighting breakouts. Lemon helps tone blemish-prone skin, glycolic acid smooths & clears clogged pores, manuka honey helps nourish your skin with its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, and the proprietary Kinbiome supports clear skin & a strong barrier. You should feel a “stingle” with use. You never want your skin to burn with an acid product, but some tingling is normal and usually means its effective. BUT YOUR FACE SHOULD NOT HURT. (I apologize for the all caps, I just want to make that point very clear). Love Kinship recommends starting 3x per week and building to daily use. A jar of these pads costs $24.

My thoughts

Lemon in skincare? I have thoughts. It gives me nightmare flashbacks to using the Clean & Clear lemon line before a middle school concert and having the most HORRID breakout/rash on my face. While these pads do not cause any irritation for me, I do recommend proceeding with caution. If not for the lemon, I would love everything about them. Glycolic is an amazing acid. and Manuka Honey is my all-time favorite skincare ingredient! How and if you should use these depends on your skin. I personally would never recommend using an AHA product daily but incorporating these 2-3x a week in your evening routine would not be the worst idea if you are cautious about what other exfoliating products you use. For a skincare newbie, who doesn’t have sensitive skin, I think these could be a great introduction to acid exfoliation.

Would I purchase with my own money? Probably not.

Mint Mud Deep Pore Detox Mask

love kinship mint mud deep pore detox mask

Product Information

Love Kinship’s newest release promises to balance oil, unclog pores, and improve the appearance of blemishes. It contains lactic acid to exfoliate and clear clogged pores, bentonite + kaolin clays to help clear pores and balance oil, moringa to rejuvenate and soften your skin, and the proprietary Kinbiome supports clear skin & a strong barrier. To use, apply an even layer to a clean face (or whichever area is congested) and let dry for 5-10 minutes. Use warm water to rinse and follow with your favorite moisturizer. You can also use this mask as an exfoliating cleanser – apply a small dollop to fingers and massage into skin before rinsing. A 2oz jar retails for $23.

My Thoughts

I have tried quite a few clay masks since beginning my skincare journey, like the amazing pink clay version from Sand & Sky (read my review here). It takes a lot for another clay mask to stand out – but this one has earned a spot in my rotation. I love the minty fresh feeling! MI also really like that it does not have an intense dry down. After each use I saw a visible difference in the severity of my blackheads. It was particularly helpful around my nose and chin areas. A little goes a long way with this product. That fact, along with the price, make it an affordable, effective option for anyone whose skin needs a good detox. Would I purchase with my own money? Yes.

Supermello Hydrating Gel Cream Moisturizer

love kinship supermello hydrating gel cream

Product Information

This cooling and nourishing moisturizer helps to soothe your skin and reduce the appearance of redness. Hyaluronic acid keeps skin hydrated, marshmallow root acts as an anti-inflammatory, coconut water helps to soften and protect your skin, and their proprietary Kinbiome supports clear skin & a strong barrier. It smells like marshmallows which means I’m automatically obsessed! The gel cream is lightweight and slightly cooling. Supermello costs $24 for 1.75oz.

My thoughts

I love the smell. Many of the Love Kinship products have a vanilla scent that puts me back into my childhood baking memories and makes me so happy. I also really enjoy the texture of this cream. It’s very lightweight and feels hydrating. Personally, I didn’t notice a strong impact on my redness and irritation. While nice, and affordable, it just didn’t WOW me as much as some of my other moisturizers do. Would I purchase with my own money? Probably not.

Pimple Potion Retinal + Salicyclic Acid Acne Treatment

Product Information

Like all spot treatments, this works to clear & prevent acne pimples. However, unlike all spot treatments, it is benzoyl peroxide free!

Pimple potion contains retinal to promote skin renewal, salicyclic acid to clear blackheads and prevent new breakouts, bakuchiol to help brighten and clear skin, and the proprietary Kinbiome to support clear skin & a strong barrier. After cleansing skin, apply to affected area and allow it to absorb. It costs $19 for 0.53oz (but has lasted me months and I don’t think I’m anywhere near finishing).

My Thoughts

Spot treatments are incredibly popular. I have tried a lot, and this ranks in my top three. It effectively reduces the size & redness of my spots. Applying it to my chin area also helps with my bumpy texture. Would I purchase with my own money? Yes.

Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturizing Sunscreen Zinc Oxide SPF 32

love kinship self reflect spf 32

Product Information

This reef-safe, mineral sunscreen is designed for blemish-prone skin – no more excuses for not wearing your SPF! It contains non-nano zinc oxide to provide UVA & UVB protection, tumeric to soothe and protect, and the proprietary Kinbiome to support clear skin and a strong barrier. There is no hint of that gross sunscreen smell – instead, it smells of vanilla! It is lightweight, non-greasy and easy to rub in. The texture is creamy and feels like you aren’t wearing. Lastly, it provides a smooth, blurring finish. Self Reflect costs $25 for 1.75oz. One tube lasted me just over a month with daily use & reapplication.

My Thoughts

This is a bestseller for a reason. I am thoroughly obsessed with this sunscreen. It has earned holy grail status for me. The scent is lovely, the texture so enjoyable to apply, and the effect so beautiful on the skin. It works as a moisturizer, makeup primer and sunscreen all in one. I am absolutely blown away by this product. Best of all, it’s reef-safe so you can use it guilt free! Would I purchase with my own money? Yes – and I already have! I don’t ever want to be without this spf.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I love many of Love Kinship’s products. They have nailed the sustainability angle – I am so impressed by their commitment to making the world a better place. Their products are on the whole effective. Lastly, the prices are very affordable for clean skincare. Rather than try out celebrity brands like Kylie Skin or Fenty Skin, I would recommend beginners try looking at Love Kinship.

I hope this Love Kinship review was helpful if you have been interested in testing out the brand for yourself. ALSO – I am currently running a giveaway on my Instagram of all six of their products, so if you want a shot at winning the entire line go give it a look! And thank you for reading <3
